BROTHERS I

SINGITA, TANZANIA

This black-and-white photograph captures an intimate moment between two adult male lions on the verge of meeting face to face. I was waiting for the greeting. Once you know the lions behaviour you get ready for the encounter. An it’s then when their intense gazes lock, as if communicating silently, creating that great connection.
Lying down in the car floor I got a low point of view with only a hint of blurred grass in the foreground. You know those moments are pure joy and concentration even though I suffer in a tangle and painful body position. The afternoon soft light accentuates the texture of their manes and the contours of their faces, drawing us into this profound encounter in the wild.

Printed in super matt finish of Hahnemüle Photorag. The paper gives muted blacks with even colour reproduction, and excellent detail. The surface has minimal texture with a chalky smooth cotton feel which creates smooth colour gradients. It has a delicate surface, so we recommend extra care when handling.
